Houghton Mifflin encourages employees to take an active role in the communities in which we work and do business.
Volunteer Network
Houghton Mifflin recognizes and encourages employee volunteerism through the Houghton Mifflin Volunteer Network, a Company-wide collaborative that assists employees in finding, developing, and implementing volunteer initiatives.
Employee Fundraising
Houghton Mifflin and its divisions sponsor annual employee fundraising campaigns to benefit United Way of Massachusetts Bay, United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, and Earth Share of New England agencies. Along with their personal contributions, employees raise thousands of dollars through activities ranging from book sales to online auctions.
Matching Gifts Program
Through the Houghton Mifflin Employee Matching Gifts Program, Houghton Mifflin will match up to $25,000 of employee gifts, with a maximum of $2,500 per organization, to nonprofit educational, environmental, civic, and cultural organizations each year.
- Education: Primary and secondary schools, two- and four-year colleges and universities, including technical, professional, and graduate schools, and education-related organizations.
- Environment: Organizations that focus on preserving, protecting, and conserving the environment, natural resources, and wildlife.
- Civic: Groups that aid children and their families, including youth centers and literacy programs.
- Arts and Culture: Groups that promote the study and appreciation of the humanities and the visual and performing arts, including libraries and museums.
Scholarship Program
Every year, Houghton Mifflin awards two four-year $2,500 undergraduate scholarships to children of Houghton Mifflin employees. The annual competition is conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), an independent, not-for-profit organization. All aspects of the competition are administered by NMSC.
Houghton Mifflin reserves the right to interpret, apply, amend, or revoke these programs at any time without prior notice. The policies and procedures described above are not conditions of employment nor are they intended to create or constitute a contract between Houghton Mifflin and any one or all of its employees.
