BOSTON — July 6, 2005 — Teri Kelly, President of Houghton Mifflin’s
Trade and Reference Division, announced today that Alan Smagler will join the
Company as Vice President and Publisher of Houghton Mifflin's Children's Book
Group. All three of Houghton Mifflin's children's imprints, Houghton Mifflin
Books for Children, Clarion Books and Kingfisher Publications, will report
into Alan. He will start on July 11, 2005, and be based in Boston.
