Great Source Launches iwrite, a New Web site with Writing Resources for Educators, Students and Parents

BOSTON — September 22, 2006 — Great Source, a division of Houghton Mifflin Company, today announced the launch of iwrite, a Web site that provides educators, students and parents with the writing resources they need to get the school year off to a successful start.

"The iwrite Web site combines critical components of Great Source's scientifically proven Write Source curriculum with interactive online writing support," said Carolyn Belanger, product manager, Great Source. "It was carefully designed to meet the writing needs of educators, students and parents."

Educators will find tutorials, templates and mini lessons on Great Source iwrite for all major forms of writing: narrative, expository, persuasive, research report and response to literature. The site's "Ask the Expert" feature links educators with Houghton Mifflin authors for prompt feedback on writing pedagogy, assessment and lesson plans. "The Buzz" includes articles that highlight what’s new in writing instruction. Additional resources for educators include a collection of writing prompts to jumpstart classroom activities, links to state writing standards and rubrics based on the six traits of writing.

For students in grades 5–12, Great Source iwrite offers step-by-step instruction on a variety of writing assignments; interactive video tutorials; and a handbook that provides lessons on editing, punctuation, grammar and mechanics. It's a place where students can get writing ideas, practice the writing process and learn grammar tips to strengthen their skills. Regular student writing contests on Great Source iwrite will reinforce learning and creativity.

"Students will find a wealth of resources to help them with their writing on Great Source iwrite, and their parents will, too," said Belanger. "Parents play an integral role in furthering their child's education. With that in mind, we incorporated tips for parents to help kids excel on writing tests and ideas to help them give constructive feedback."

To access Great Source iwrite, visit www.greatsource.com/iwrite. All of the resources on iwrite are complimentary and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
